After a 2020 edition that was forcefully done remotely, Ciências Research Day returned to the main Ciências Auditorium in full force this year! From the morning until the afternoon, we were reminded once and again about the excellence of our researchers, the vastness of the areas we work in, and the progressive internationalisation of Ciências.
After the inspiring opening remarks by our Dean Prof. Luís Carriço – that included a metaphor involving thirsty plants and the funding of research! -, Vice Dean for Research Prof. Margarida Santos-Reis gave us an overview of the research highlights in 2020.
After the first remarks, it was time for some of our top researchers to present their work in detail. And how marvelous it is to hear them speaking passionately about their research activities! From fungi to spider mites, from ruthenium compounds for cancer to climate change, from medical imaging to astrobiology, we got a great overview of our research.
But the Research Day also had other activities! The C3 Atrium displayed an exhibition of 72 posters, there were speed dates with scientists and also an open labs day throughout the whole campus.
