Ciências ULisboa students win Unicorn Factory Lisboa’s Hackathon

In a remarkable achievement, Carolina Margarido, Catarina Lima, and Raquel Costa, Master’s students in Biomedical Engineering and Biophysics at Ciências ULisboa, won the Future Innovators Program’ Hackathon hosted by Unicorn Factory Lisboa.

The event, held on May 18-19 at SONAE’s Porto headquarters, challenged students to build a prototype in a fast-paced environment. Their project, Learn it VR, impressed judges with its immersive VR learning platform designed to boost student engagement and retention, highlighting the potential to transform educational experiences through immersive technology. Their next step in the program involves working closely with mentors to develop a viable business model and strategy, with the aim of bringing their innovative solution to market.

The Hackathon, part of the Future Innovators Program, is designed to foster entrepreneurial skills and innovation among Portuguese university students. Participants faced rigorous competition, presenting their projects to a panel of experts from various fields. The Ciências ULisboa team’s success not only highlights their technical prowess but also underscores the university’s commitment to fostering innovative thinking and real-world problem-solving skills.
