Last Tuesday, Tec Labs hosted its first Meet the Investor session of the year, featuring Faber, a leading Southern European venture capital firm specializing in deep tech investments.
The event began with a 30-minute presentation by Thomas Childs and João Pinho, who introduced Faber’s investment strategy and its focus on supporting science-driven entrepreneurs tackling complex global challenges through AI, robotics, computational biology, quantum computing, and ocean sustainability.
Faber operates two key funds:
- Faber Tech – Investing in applied AI, digital transformation, and deep science across sectors like healthcare, energy, manufacturing, and space technology.
- Faber Blue Pioneers – Focused on ocean sustainability and decarbonization, backing startups in clean energy, blue biotech, and plastic reduction.
With a strong presence in Southern Europe, Faber aims to bridge the gap in early-stage capital for deep tech startups, supporting them from pre-seed to early Series A, with tickets of up to 2,5M€.
Following the presentation, four Tec Labs startups engaged in exclusive 1:1 meetings with Thomas Childs and João Pinho, where they pitched their projects and explored potential investment opportunities.
As the first “Meet the Investor” event of 2025, this session set the tone for a year of enhanced collaboration between Tec Labs and top-tier investors.
Looking ahead, Faber and Tec Labs are committed to strengthening the relationship between academia and the startup ecosystem, working to demystify venture capital in academic environments and foster a culture of innovation and commercialization of research.
