Successful Conclusion of Science Innovation Projects Competition

The first edition of the Internal Competition for Science Innovation Projects concluded with a final event on January 18th. The event showcased a myriad of impressive projects, highlighting the community’s commitment to innovation and knowledge valorization.

The competition was promoted by Ciências ULisboa and FCiênciasID, with the support of Tec Labs, with the main goal of stimulating innovation within our research community providing them with dedicated funding to develop proof-of-concepts, minimum viable products or prototyping their solutions.

We received a wide range of applications from different scientific areas of Ciências ULisboa and in the final event the selected 6 finalists had the opportunity to pitch their projects to the jury of the competition and several institutional partners of Ciências ULisboa and Tec Labs.

In the end, there were selected two winners, namely the project Lusoturf which tackles the problem of synthetic turfs used in football, rugby, and other sports, and the project TAMUK, which developed a molecule that inhibits KRAS’s most common mutations, providing hope where clinical options to cancer treatment are limited.

The event also provided networking opportunities with the jury members and institutional partners in a lunch that took place after the pitch session and in which we celebrated the success of this initiative. Its success underscores the community’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of scientific exploration and fostering a culture of innovation, so it’s fair to extend huge congratulations to all of those involved!
